The sands of Arrakis are shifting again.

Now Dune: Part Three is bringing Denis Villeneuve's epic saga to its next chapter, with the film scheduled to arrive in South African cinemas on 18 December 2026.

At the end of Dune: Part Two, Paul had defeated the Emperor's champion, secured his position at the centre of the Imperium and set a holy war in motion. Dune: Part Three moves the story forward by approximately 17 years, placing Paul firmly in the role of Emperor while the consequences of his rise to power continue to unfold.
The official synopsis points to political conspiracies, a galaxy-spanning holy war and a future that Paul alone can foresee. Power may have given him control, but it hasn't given him peace. This time, the conflict isn't simply about who controls Arrakis. It's about what happens when the man at the centre of a religious movement begins to question the future he's helped create.
Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, now Emperor and facing the consequences of his transformation from reluctant heir to galactic ruler. Zendaya reprises her role as Chani, whose relationship with Paul has become increasingly complicated following his decision to embrace power. Florence Pugh returns as Princess Irulan, while Rebecca Ferguson is back as Lady Jessica.
Then there are some major additions and surprises.
Anya Taylor-Joy expands her role as Alia Atreides, Paul's sister, whose unusual abilities and connection to generations of ancestral memory make her one of the story's most intriguing figures. And yes, Jason Momoa is back. But not simply as the Duncan Idaho audiences remember. He returns as Hayt, a ghola created in Duncan's image.
Robert Pattinson joins the ensemble as Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer whose shifting identity and political agenda make him a major threat to Paul's rule.
The first official teaser arrived in March 2026, followed by a full trailer in July, giving audiences their first substantial look at the next stage of Paul's story. The footage immediately signals a change in tone. This isn't another origin story or straightforward war epic. Villeneuve has described the third film as a thriller, with a different rhythm and a more action-heavy approach to the world of Dune.
The trailers also spotlight the strained relationship between Paul and Chani, the return of Hayt and the introduction of Pattinson's Scytale. Most importantly, the scale remains enormous. Arrakis is still central, but the story expands beyond the desert as political conspiracies, personal loyalties and the consequences of Paul's rule collide.
Some films look good on a big screen. Dune demands one.
Villeneuve has shot much of Dune: Part Three with IMAX cameras, particularly the desert sequences, making the format a natural fit for the film's enormous landscapes and action.
