Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol: Rediscover What Christmas Is All About

You know the name, but this time you may not know the story. The new Ebenezer movie brings Charles Dickens’ famous ghost story back to cinemas on 13 November 2026, with Johnny Depp stepping into the role of Scrooge. Directed by Ti West, it gives a much-loved tale a fresh look while keeping the message that made it a Christmas favourite.

Ster-Kinekor is the place to see it, with a big screen, big sound and a full cinema crowd.

The Classic Story That Reminds Us What Christmas Is About

First published in 1843, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a cold businessman who cares more about money than people. On Christmas Eve, three ghosts show him his past, his present and what his future will be – and he has to decide if he likes it or not. The story has lasted for generations because its message is simple: kindness, family and second chances matter more than anything in a money box.

Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer and the Cast Around Him

Johnny Depp leads the film as Scrooge, and the trailer shows him almost unrecognisable in the role. This is a big return to major studio films for Depp. He is joined by Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, as well as Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman and Daisy Ridley. With a cast this strong, the Ebenezer scrooge movie is already one of the most talked-about releases of the festive season.

A Fresh Take on an Old Classic

There have been plenty of interpretations of this movie over the years, from the Muppets to Bill Murray to Jim Carrey. But Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol stands out amongst the rest because of its gothic mood and slightly dark humour. The trailer shows creepy ghosts and a tense Christmas Eve, all built around the same journey of a man facing his past, present and future. If you enjoy your classics with a bit of a chill, this one is made for you.

Make Ebenezer Part of Your Christmas Plans This Year

From Johnny Depp’s bold take on Scrooge to Ti West’s spooky style, this film gives a well-loved story a new edge. It still reminds us what Christmas is about: kindness, family and second chances.
