Ster-Kinekor’s longstanding CSI project, Vision Mission, provides eye care for children in underprivileged areas - this also includes corneal transplants sponsored by reputable donors and partners. Yesterday, Vision Mission hosted learners from Kliptown and Kenilworth Secondary Schools to watch Black Panther at South Gate Mall. The purpose of the day was to hand-over brand-new spectacles to the 53 learners who had their eyes screened during last year. This was a partnership between Ster-Kinekor, Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) and South African Optometric Association (SAOA).
About Vision Mission
Vision Mission is a brainchild of Ster-Kinekor, part of the Primedia Limited Group, a leading media company in South Africa. Ster-Kinekor has always been involved in a wide range of CSI projects, the biggest of which is Vision Mission. The area of sight and vision was a logical choice since it is very difficult to enjoy any of Ster-Kinekor's products if you can't see properly.
Through the assistance with the Department of Health & Education schools are identified in underprivileged areas. the ophthalmic nurses do the initial screening and optometrists conduct visual examinations in a controlled environment i.e. a Ster-Kinekor cinema foyer, a local clinic, school or at optometrist practices. Prescriptions are documented, frame selected, then everything is sent to the lab for completion. The kids who need specs are returned to receive their prescription and can then watch a movie with clear vision.
