Violent Night 2 – Santa's Back and Deadlier Than Ever This December

Sleigh bells are ringing. Someone is screaming. And somewhere, Santa Claus is probably reaching for a weapon.

After Violent Night turned the festive season into a blood-soaked action movie in 2022, David Harbour's Santa Claus is back for another round of Christmas chaos. Directed once again by Tommy Wirkola, Violent Night 2 arrives in cinemas on 4 December 2026, bringing a new threat, a new setting and one very important addition to the Christmas crew: Mrs. Claus.

Here's what to know before the mayhem begins.

The Story: Santa Lands on the Naughty List

The first Violent Night gave us a Santa with a seriously unexpected backstory: beneath the beard and festive suit was a former Viking warrior with a very particular approach to dealing with bad guys.

This time, however, even Santa's magic can't save him.

Violent Night 2 finds Saint Nick stranded in a crumbling New Jersey shopping mall, cut off from the North Pole and facing a ruthless crime lord whose gang has taken over the Silver Bell Mall. Worse still, Santa has been sapped of his magic after losing sight of the true meaning of Christmas.

So, the world's most unconventional Christmas hero has to rediscover what makes him Santa while dealing with a very non-festive group of criminals.

And he's going to need backup.

Sleighing the Screen: Meet the Cast

David Harbour returns as Santa Claus, bringing back the gruff, battle-hardened version of Father Christmas that made the first film such a surprise. This time, he's joined by Kristen Bell as Mrs. Claus, giving the sequel a formidable new character who looks more than capable of handling herself. The first footage has already offered audiences a glimpse of Bell's take on the character, and the arrival of Mrs. Claus promises to change the dynamic considerably.

The Violent Night 2 cast also includes Jared Harris, who plays the ruthless gangster terrorising the mall, alongside Joe Pantoliano, Daniela Melchior, Maxwell Friedman and Andrew Bachelor. With Harbour's bruising Santa facing Harris's criminal mastermind and Bell's Mrs. Claus joining the fight, Christmas is looking considerably less peaceful this year.

A Mall Under Siege

The sequel takes the action away from the isolated family home of the first film and into a sprawling shopping-mall setting. That's a gift for an action-comedy filmmaker. The mall provides an enormous playground for Wirkola's brand of inventive, physical violence, with Christmas decorations, shops and everyday objects potentially becoming part of Santa's increasingly creative arsenal.

The tone remains firmly in the territory established by the 2022 original: dark, bloody, ridiculous and unapologetically festive.

Why Violent Night 2 Belongs on the Big Screen

Some Christmas films ask you to curl up with a hot chocolate. Violent Night 2 asks you to buckle up.

With action built around physical fights, large-scale set pieces and plenty of dark comedy, the cinema is the perfect place to experience the sequel. The bigger the screen and the better the sound, the more room there is for every punch, explosion and ridiculous festive weapon to land.

And because this is a Christmas movie for people who prefer their seasonal cheer with considerably more violence, watching it with a crowd only adds to the experience.

Christmas is officially cancelled. Unless Santa can save it first.
