
Ster Kinekor Theatres (Pty) Ltd Competition Terms & Conditions
1. Promoter
The Ster-Kinekor "SK Squad Search" Competition ("the Competition") is conducted by Ster-Kinekor Theatres (Pty) Ltd (Registration Number: 2018/482630/07) ("Ster-Kinekor" or "the Promoter").
These Terms and Conditions, together with all promotional material relating to the Competition, constitute the official rules governing participation in the Competition.
By entering the Competition, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Ster-Kinekor's decision regarding any aspect of the Competition will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
2. Competition Period
The Competition opens on 17 July 2026 and closes at 23:59 on 27 August 2026 and will be communicated on Ster-Kinekor's official marketing channels.
Late entries will not be accepted.
3. Eligibility
The Competition is open to:
• South African citizens or permanent residents
• Persons who are 18 years of age or older at the date of entry
The following persons may not participate:
• Employees, directors and immediate family members of Ster-Kinekor
• Employees, directors and immediate family members of SPACE
• Any agency, supplier or company directly associated with the administration of this Competition.
Ster-Kinekor reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all entrants.
4. Entry Mechanism
To enter the Competition, participants must:
A. Create an original TikTok video of no longer than 60 seconds demonstrating what cinema means to them.
B. Publish the video publicly on TikTok using the official competition hashtag #SKSquadSearch
C. Complete the online entry form available on the official SK Squad website and submit all required information before the closing date.
There is no minimum follower requirement.
Multiple entries are permitted. Each qualifying video submitted will be treated as a separate entry.
Entries that are incomplete, fraudulent, offensive, unlawful or submitted after the closing date will not be considered.
5. Entry Rules
All submitted content must:
• Be the original work of the entrant
• Not infringe any copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights
• Not containing unlawful, defamatory, offensive, discriminatory or inappropriate material
• Comply with TikTok's Community Guidelines and applicable South African law.
Ster-Kinekor reserves the right to remove or disqualify any entry that does not comply with these requirements.
6. Judging
All eligible entries will be evaluated by a judging panel appointed by Ster-Kinekor and SPACE.
Entries will be assessed against criteria including but not limited to:
• Creativity
• Storytelling ability
• On-camera presence
• Editing ability
• Narration and communication skills
• Authenticity
• Passion for cinema
• Overall suitability to represent the Ster-Kinekor brand.
The judges' decision is final.
Ten (10) finalists will be selected.
Finalists will be contacted using the details supplied during entry. Should a finalist fail to respond within the period specified by Ster-Kinekor, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternate finalist.
7. Finalist Event
The ten (10) finalists will be invited to attend a live selection event at a Ster-Kinekor cinema in Johannesburg on a date communicated by Ster-Kinekor.
Reasonable travel arrangements for finalists residing outside Gauteng may be provided at Ster-Kinekor's discretion
Attendance at the final selection event is compulsory.
Failure to attend the event without prior written approval from Ster-Kinekor may result in disqualification.
During the event, finalists will participate in various creative assessments and presentations determined by Ster-Kinekor.
8. Selection
Following the final judging process, five (5) participants will be selected to become members of the SK Squad.
The judges' decision is final and binding.
No correspondence will be entered into regarding the judging process or results.
9. Prize
The prize consists of the award of a twelve (12) month SK Squad Content Creator Contract with Ster-Kinekor
. Five (5) successful participants will each be awarded a twelve (12) month contract to create content for Ster-Kinekor, commencing on a date determined by Ster-Kinekor.
Each successful participant will be required to create:
• Two (2) original TikTok videos per month;
• A total of twenty-four (24) TikTok videos over the twelve (12) month contract period;
• Each video must have a minimum duration of thirty (30) seconds.
Successful participants will receive remuneration of R2,500 per month, payable upon successful completion of that month's agreed deliverables, resulting in a total contract value of R30,000 over the twelve (12) month period.
The monthly remuneration constitutes payment for services rendered under the contract and is not a cash prize.
Failure to fulfil the agreed deliverables may result in non-payment for that month's deliverables and/or termination of the contract in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
10. Contract Terms
The SK Squad Content Creator Contract shall be governed by the terms contained in Annexure A- Ster-Kinekor Content Creator Agreement/Brief, which forms part of these Terms and Conditions.
By entering this Competition, participants acknowledge that they have read and accepted the provisions contained in Annexure A should they be selected as one of the five (5) successful participants.
The terms contained in Annexure A include, but are not limited to:
• Scope of work and deliverables
• Content approval process
• Brand protection requirements
• Exclusivity obligations
• Morality clause
• Payment term
• Usage rights and intellectual property
• Indemnities
• POPIA obligations
• Confidentiality
• Termination provisions
• Relationship between the parties
• Governing law.
11. Publicity
By entering the Competition, participants agree that Ster-Kinekor may photograph, film and record their participation during the Competition.
Finalists and successful participants may be required to participate in publicity, promotional campaigns, interviews, photography, videography and marketing activities relating to the Competition and the SK Squad.
Should any participant not wish to participate in publicity after selection, such request must be submitted in writing to Ster-Kinekor. Ster-Kinekor reserves the right to determine whether such request is compatible with participation in the Competition or the Content Creator Agreement
12. Intellectual Property
Entrants retain ownership of their original entry videos. By entering the Competition, participants grant Ster-Kinekor a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, publish, distribute and promote submitted entry content for purposes related to the administration and promotion of the Competition
Ownership of any content created pursuant to the Content Creator Agreement shall be governed by the terms of that separate
agreement.
13. POPIA Act
Ster-Kinekor will collect and process participants' personal information solely for purposes related to administering the Competition and in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").
Personal information will not be disclosed to third parties except where required for administering the Competition or where required by law.
Participants may receive marketing communications from Ster-Kinekor where they have consented to receive such communications and may unsubscribe at any time.
14. General
Ster-Kinekor reserves the right to verify all information supplied by participants. Any attempt to manipulate or improperly influence the Competition may result in immediate disqualification.
Ster-Kinekor reserves the right to amend, suspend or cancel the Competition where necessary due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control or where required by law.
Should any provision of these Terms and Conditions be found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
15. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ster‑Kinekor, SPACE and their affiliates shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from participation in the Competition or the Content Creator Agreement.
16. Disqualification
Ster-Kinekor reserves the right to disqualify any participant who:
• Provides false or misleading information
• Breaches these Terms and Conditions
• Engages in fraudulent conduct
• Brings Ster-Kinekor into disrepute
• Attempts to manipulate the Competition
• Otherwise acts contrary to the spirit of the Competition.
Ster-Kinekor's decision regarding disqualification shall be final.
17. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa and subject to the jurisdiction of South African courts.
18. Annexure A
Ster-Kinekor Content Creator Agreement/Brief
