Acts of Intervention Shorts Block brings together five short films that explore how ordinary people respond to systems in crisis, where care, resistance, and survival become forms of action. In Die Lopende Ambulanse (Dir. Leanne Brady), a rural community in the Karoo creates its own emergency response in the face of failing healthcare infrastructure. As I Lay Dying (Dirs. Mohammadreza Farzad & Pegah Ahangarani) reconstructs the aftermath of political unrest in Iran through fragments of memory and testimony. Olinda's Golden Arches (Dir. Douglas Henrique) turns a local political contest into a lens on global capitalism and cultural intrusion, while Bridging the Disconnect (Dir. Reshoketjwe Joyce Nkgapele) follows a rural Eastern Cape community building collective solutions to water scarcity. When I Came to Your Door (Dir. Antonio Paoletti) closes the programme with a quiet meditation on displacement and urban erasure in Addis Ababa. Together, these films trace the small, urgent acts through which communities intervene in systems that have failed them. (13PGV)
