The Body Remembers Shorts Block brings together three films that trace how history lives on through the body, land, and memory. Bones (Dir. Nomandla Vilakazi) revisits the life and afterlife of Sara Baartman, exploring how colonial violence continues to shape Black bodies and their representation. In Eyes to see (Dir. Haneem Christian), healing unfolds through Indigenous knowledge, reimagining identity, queerness, and embodiment beyond colonial frameworks. WAT WAS HIE? (Dir. Luke De Kock) moves through Cape landscapes as living archives, where erased histories of Indigenous presence and colonial violence resurface through performance and memory. Together, these films reveal the body as a site of remembrance, resistance, and reclamation. (13PV)
